Jo's role is mushrooming!

Jo Hatton has been clocking up quite a few miles since she joined LEAF Education in January, covering four large counties means that Jo gets to see a lot of the beautiful countryside.  Particular highlights have been meeting lots and lots of lovely farmers and teachers, discovering the wonderful work that is already taking place across the region, providing support and guidance to hosts and teachers, and setting up lots of exciting projects with wonderfully enthusiastic people.

As Jo was originally a business studies teacher, writing educational resources has meant a revival of dormant skills, and she is particularly proud of her case study Button Farm which is available to download from the Countryside Classroom website

Jo is currently working on a case study based upon mushroom growing thanks to a fabulously inspiring tour of the Leckford mushroom farm earlier this month.   'Farmers are perfect examples of Entrepreneurs and their farms make wonderful examples of easily understandable businesses, with many operating across the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors.  Current market conditions mean that many Farmers have had to diversify away from traditional farming practices and such decisions make great case studies which can be examined from a huge number of angles, inspiring and engaging even the most reticent of students.  After all, what students don't want to engage with animals, food, tourism, tractors and the occasional bit of crisis management??!!'

If you have a business that you feel would make a great case study for business studies students, or are a teacher looking for support, then do contact Jo via her email Jo@face-online.org.uk  she is always looking for her next challenge.
